The Series

While still located in East Harlem, thedramaloft melded the storied history of this neighborhood, with the personal stories of the artist collective to create the play, El Barrio. After a scheduled performance at a local university was banned because they found the material too controversial for the student body, we realized this topic  was too big for the stage  and too gritty for mainstream television. Therefore, El Barrio the cable series was born.

and Cinemetographer Wolfgang Lehner (Tiedat).

Logline

Secrets and sins unravel in El Barrio, a diverse and passionate community in New York's Spanish Harlem.

Concept

El Barrio is a groundbreaking weekly drama that celebrates the life and lives of Spanish Harlem. The series will give birth to unique and controversial characters, powerful and provocative stories, and will be unrelenting in capturing not only the community's brutality, but also its wonder and beauty.

Each season will take an innovative approach to the stories told. Rather than looking to the future each year, El Barrio will delve into the past. We will discover how people and places came to be after seeing what they have already become. We will capture the neighborhoods volatile past and the lives of its diverse population.

The neighborhood's closely guarded history is brought to life in its untold stories of the past and the present. El Barrio will be like no other series ever seen on television in style and substance.
